WW Sporting Clays, located in N.E. Florida not far outside
Jacksonville,(directions) was established in 1990. At first opening, There was only
a small 50 shot range with two manual traps that could accommodate 4-5
shooters at a time. The sport was relatively new to this part of the country
and was only meant to be a little range for a few friends to practice wing
shooting.
Very shortly afterwards, the word got out and the traffic
became overwhelming. The owner, Wayne Scarborough and Manager, Ken Branham
realized that there was potential for a real commercial need to the
residents of Jacksonville. By 1995, there was a 5-Stand, a Skeet Range, and
a 14 station sporting clays course that could accommodate a large number of
shooters at any given time. In 1996, the Florida State Championship was held
at WW with a record turn out. In 1998, the Seminole Cup, was held at WW
Sporting Clays. This was a 500 shooter competition with over 30 states and 4
countries represented. WW Sporting Clays never looked back and continues to
grow.
The business is now owned by John Peek, also owner of
Southwind
Sporting Clays and Quail Hunting in Lake Park, Georgia. And, after a few years of
absence, John hired Ken Branham to return as manager.
The sporting range is now fully automated and hosts a variety
of charity
events, corporate entertainment, parties, and registered tournaments
annually.
